Throughout the study of this unit, I gained valuable insights into the complexities and strategic
considerations involved in attracting and managing Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). One of
the most significant personal revelations was understanding how deeply cultural sensitivity,
legal structure, and regulatory compliance influence investor confidence and long-term project
sustainability. This knowledge has sharpened my ability to assess international business
opportunities with greater precision and has equipped me to engage more effectively with
foreign investors.

It was a fascinating yet challenging experience where I witnessed firsthand how cultural differences in communication and decision-making could influence the progress of a project. I developed a far greater understanding of the difficulties of intercultural communication during this unit's study, especially in professional settings like project management, decision-making, and negotiating. One of the most enlightening insights was that successful communication requires not just fluency in the language but also knowledge of the unwritten rules values, conventions, and expectations that differ throughout cultures.

As a Namibian professional, I grew more conscious of my own cultural lens, which values transparency, community involvement, and cooperative procedures. I used to think that more restrained or hierarchical behaviour was distant or uninterested. I now have a better knowledgeable and nonjudgmental understanding of these behaviours thanks to this study. I've become more patient, understanding, and flexible in multicultural situations as a result of this.

From undertaking this research, I have come to gain some lessons which I have started to apply to my work to bridge the gaps that come with working with teams that are geographically and culturally diverse.
• I have started to build my cultural intelligence and sensitivity as a manager I have learnt to be culturally sensitive so that I can achieve project goals and avoid cultural misunderstandings.
• I am making a conscious effort not to generalize, stereotype, or make assumptions about people that I have never met before and cultures that I don’t really understand. I have made it a point that I research about and cultural issues pertaining to a new business partner or I try to seek advice from someone who’s familiar with their customs. As humans, and we all have cultural biases; I have learnt not to let them get in the way I interact with people.

This assignment allowed me to see the negative and positive impact of digital technology on businesses. There is a clear message that came up in my research that it requires intentional planning to include this in our business. Businesses have been rendered obsolete due to oversight and lack of improvement in the area of digital technology. Digital technology is the future and there is need for our business to be agile in responding to these changes. The disruptive nature of digital technology cannot be underrated.

Cases like Coca Cola, Amazon and Walmart give us a picture of how some organizations that are thriving are using digital technology from big data, data analytics, artificial intelligence etc. Their use of digital technology has improved their supply chain processes, deducing future customer trends and improving effectiveness and efficiency in general. We hear of technology replacing humans as if it’s a distant reality but after this assignment I have realized how close this is as it is already happening in most parts of the world.

An employee who knows where they stand in a company will endeavour to perform to their peak, unless there are only punitive measure in place for missing set goals or for not achieving them to a set standard, falling short of the required minimum. If the outputs from a newly developed performance appraisal system can account for new and improved means to grow employee value and guide the employee on their chosen career path, the company has of an employee who will go the extra mile.

This assignment has made the latter very clear and allowed me to explore the possibilities of engaging with the business to drive change to our current performance appraisal system.
